Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere...

... and Everybody Is A Star. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all the many dedicated stalwarts who produced Western Weekend this year. The weekend over-all, but especially the parade is – to quote a friend, “one of our most cherished local events” – perfect chance to dig up a little tribute:

1. Brian Wilson, Everybody Wants To Live - Adult Child (Unreleased Album)

2. Tokens, Beautiful People - Both Sides Now

3. Nina Simone, In The Morning - 'Nuff Said!

4. Nina Simone, Rich Girl - Live At Drury Lane

5. Love, Everybody's Gotta Live - Reel to Real

With Love,

The All Day Music Team

Bo Bay Today, Wednesday, June 3

- Jon Moore

Shrieks fill the air

Sun cooks my hair
Parked at water’s edge
By the lagoon that won’t be dredged

Only two gulls
Over there on Stinson
Both walk and talk
In the quiet, it’s quite winsome

Fishing folk dot the beach
Early birders get the worm
Toss the bait, throw it straight
Taut the line, keep it firm

Heat’s up
Fries the skin
Clouds drift in
It’s cool again

Hangin’ there, in mid-air
Fog looms the lagoon
Those two gulls still croon a tune
Screech like dogs bark at the moon

Right here today, on the Bo Bay

Crossfire

Who’s job should it be to listen all day to dirty records and decide if you can? We can, and do, but that’s not the point. Guess who else... Zappa (#8).

And the Playlist goes:
1. George Benson, “the Changing World” - Bad Benson

2. Isley Brothers, “Highways of my Life” - Harvest for the World

3. Herbie Hancock, Come Running to Me - Sunlight

OH GOD! More white wine...

4. Graham Nash, Chicago - Songs for Beginners

5. Eddie Senay, Aint No Sunshine

6. Pink Floyd, One of These Days - Meddle

7. Weather Report, Young and Fine - Mr. Gone

8. Frank Zappa, Penguin in Bondage - but if you’ve ever wondered about the origins of FCC Censorship, don’t miss FZ slaying ‘em in person, here on Crossfire, from god-knows-when.

While we’re at it, why not go the full... um... all the way, and see Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher,” too? Hard to say what’s the most offensive object is here.

9. Bernard Wright, Haboglabotribin' - Nard

...And today’s Guilty Pleasure... Pat Benatar, Hearbreaker

June 1, 2009

5/27 and beyond: Three choice picks

3 right off the bat this week... Independent Lense on the history of Bloods Versus Crips; Speaking of civil rights, smarty pants can read about it thanks to Stanford Law; And, I love John Waters, won’t you? via Variety...

Now that May is over I can get around to last week’s play list—right after you hit up All Day Music on Facebook. And we should all give Adrienne Pheiffer a large, circular round of applause for bringing in great shows (in order to bring in great shows) for our radio station (and for so much more). Congratulations, A! And thank you for laughing.

Okay then: For whatever reason (could be Don Dean or Epicenter Sound) I can't stop it with Dub Side of the Moon, and I pretty much have no idea how the Easy (should we say, nasty?) Star All-Stars can pull off their latest move. It’s impossible. Did I mention that it’s impossible? And yet, there it is... so check it out.

And then, again a little late–this is more or less what we did last Wednesday:
1. Holding You, Don Blackman - Another Late Night
2. Give Me Your Love / Eddie You Should Know Better, Curtis Mayfield
3. Ooh Boy, Rose Royce - Music Magic
4. What you Wouldn't Do for Love, Bobbie Caldwell
5. Think About It, Lynn Colins - Think
6. and 7. Bring it Up / Funky President, James Brown

This 7" single was recorded August (or September?) of 1974 at Sound Ideas, New York and released in October 1974 on the album Reality, shortly after Gerald Ford succeeded Richard Nixon (after he refuses to surrender 500 tapes and documents which subpoenaed by the Senate Watergate Committee) in the "white" house. Cold Blooded is the B-Side.

8. Soul Vibration, Kool and the Gang - Hollywood Swingin’
9. You're the One for Me, Bobby, Marvelettes - Sophisticated Soul
10. Five to One, the Doors - Waiting for the Sun
11. Little Miss Lover, Jimi Hendrix - Axis Bold As Love
12. I Want You Back, the Jackson Five - I want you back
13. We Must Be in Love, Five Stairsteps - First Family of Soul

14. Bingo, M.I.A. - Arular (Interscope Records)
15. I’m a Lady, Santo Gold
16. Posse’s on Broadway, Sir Mix-a-lot - Top Ranking
17. Rockin’ Dub, Twilight Circus
18. Go, Go, Gadget Gospel, Gnarles Barkley
19. Over the Hill and Far away, Led Zepplin - Houses of the Holy
20. Obstacle, Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
21. Heads will Role, Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs - It’s Blitz
22. Golden Brown, Stranglers - Swatch
